Alejandro Ingelmo

Miami Beach, FL – May 5, 2013 – Cinco de Mayo at Soho Beach House was festive with fashion on Sunday afternoon. Notable accessories designer Alejandro Ingelmo joined The Webster to showcase his Fall/Winter 2013 shoe collection at Soho Beach House’s penthouse. The intimate brunch featured delicious Mexican food and Tequila Avión cocktails to wash it all down in true holiday spirit. Everyone got to meet the designer himself, fawn over his latest designs, and enjoy a relaxing rooftop view. Even World Red Eye got to steal Ingelmo away from the fashionistas for a brief moment and catch up with him. Check out our interview below.

World Red Eye: You were originally born here- what sparked the move from Miami to New York?

Alejandro Ingelmo: It was so I could go back to school for fashion at Parsons. Miami always is on my mind though. It’s where I’m from- my roots- so I always keep that in mind with designing.

WRE: How does your Cuban background play into the inspiration for your designs?

AI: There’s always a sexiness. In Miami, people take more risks. It’s a little bit warmer, so people are more open to trying things and making a statement.

WRE: You’ve gotten a bit of attention for being among the fittest bodies in fashion. Since most designers are often so consumed in their work, how do you balance it all?

AI: For me, I think you have to be balanced in every way. You have to design and work hard, but at the same time, you have to be well rounded. My therapy is [working out]. I just need it. Sometimes I’ll be sitting there, designing for a couple hours, but then I need to do step away so I can come back with a fresh perspective. It uses a different part of your brain. I work out at least five times a week; I love it. I do CrossFit and all these challenges. It’s fun to work towards a goal and push yourself. I’m getting all these girls I know in fashion to do a challenge with me next month.

WRE: When did you start bringing sneakers into the women’s line and how has it been received?

AI: I started sneakers maybe two years after my first collection. I wanted to make shoes for myself. I had all these materials that were being used only for women, and I thought they could totally play into men’s shoes. That’s how it started, and it’s been a strong component of the collection for a long time. I’ve been doing it for women’s for a while, and I guess now there’s a big sneaker trend so we’re seeing more people interested in it.

WRE: There are one or two styles that add a pop of color to the dark winter palate. Why did you pick fuchsia and teal?

AI: I always like a little bit of color- it’s the Miami in me. But it’s very controlled though. It’s always something I have to have. These two colors just stood out to me, and I felt like they played really well with the darker colors. It’s very important that whatever I design is consistent and works together.

WRE: The silhouettes of your stilettos are very sexy with the angular designs. Would you say that’s your signature style?

AI: I do that because I used to design very high heels and platforms before everyone got onto that. So when I started designing for lower heels, I still wanted to create that dramatic effect of feeling high and sexy. Designing shoes is kind of like being an architect, because there’s a certain foundation in the heel. You’re working from the ground up to create an effect of height. It’s a weird analogy, but when you see the Empire State Building, you see a foundation as it all leads up to this point at the top. I start from the heel, and the back becomes this point. My shoes are very architectural. I love to play with lines, but there’s something a little more rounded too. It all needs to have balance.

WRE: Any plans to open a boutique in your hometown city anytime soon?

AI: Yes. Definitely, it’s on my mind. I want to open another store. I looked at spaces when I was here last time. I think I’m probably going to open another store in New York first on the Upper East Side and then go to Miami or LA.

Sharon Socol

Bal Harbour, FL – May 8, 2013 – Sharon Socol, wife of the former Barneys New York CEO Howard Socol, celebrated the launch of her book Plus One: An Outsider’s Photographic Journey Into the World of Fashion at Books & Books Bal Harbour Shops on Wednesday. The renowned photographer was joined by her husband Howard, founder of Books & Books Mitch Kaplan, and book designer and author Petra Mason for the book signing and presentation. She and Kaplan sat and chatted with her fans and fashion devotees about the 120-page photographic compilation of 100 candid fashion moments captured behind-the-scenes at fashion shows and parties in New York and Paris from a nine-year time span. In addition to her priceless photos, World Red Eye got to talk with Socol first hand to get her take on the world of fashion after being at so many fabulous events and parties.

Sharon Socol

World Red Eye: What were your favorite parties to attend?

Sharon Socol: Most of the parties were hosted by Barneys. Being Barneys,  the crowd, the food, and the ambiance always had taste, luxury, and humor. Of the Barneys parties, the best were at our loft. Several times Barneys took over our kitchen and Simon Doonan rearranged my bookshelves! We hosted Donatella Versace, Iman, Cindy Sherman, the Olsen twins, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Anna Wintour, Mario Testino, and Glenda Bailey, to name a few.

WRE: How do you view the fashion world differently after seeing it first hand?

SS: I love answering this question. I am still an outsider in terms of following fashion. But over the almost ten years I observed with camera in hand, I came to see the industry as a home to thousands of talented, passionate, smart, hard-working people. I learned human history resides in fashion, and that fashion ranks as art. I understood that through fashion, a person can be whoever he or she wishes each morning when they stand in front of their closet. I think that is powerful therapy.

WRE: What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about the industry?

SS: My favorite thing is observing how fashion reaches out to people everywhere, offering them the opportunity to feel good about themselves. I think my least favorite thing is not dedicated to this industry alone: people who take themselves too seriously.

Sharon Socol & Mitch Kaplan

WRE: Were there nights you preferred to stay in and have a quiet night or are you a social butterfly?

SS: We, my husband Howard and I, are not social butterflies! We were more like caterpillars in our cocoon. We didn’t go to all the invites we received. We mostly went to Barneys, hosted parties that were directly related to business, and other events that supported the industry’s initiatives like CFDA, Parson’s School of Fashion Design, or Fashion Group International. And of course there were the many after parties during New York Fashion Week.

WRE: Where do you love to shop? Any favorite things in your wardrobe at the moment?

SS: I am not a big shopper. Though I do love shoes and dresses. I like my kitten heels too. I can wear them comfortably, and they give me a little height- I’m short and getting shorter! High and higher heels I like to call the ‘destination shoes.’ I wear them to and from events, but do not walk in them. The right shoe makes the look rich and complete. I have recently fallen back in love with dresses, especially bright colors, and those that find my waist and stop at the top of my knees. I feel feminine and back in touch with my high school days of wearing sheaths. Rag and Bone does a great little sheath. Narciso Rodriguez and Alber Elbaz at Lanvin believe in waists. [Diane von Furstenberg] was always about the waist too. Since I keep my dresses for years, I also have some lovely ones by Balenciaga.

KRELwear at SET

Karelle Levy

Miami Beach, FL – May 16, 2013 – If you haven’t heard of Miami-based clothing designer Karelle Levy, she’s the one behind the knitwear label KRELwear. Throughout the past ten years, her body-hugging knitwear has been featured in publications like Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Ocean Drive, New York Magazine, The New York Times, The Miami Herald, Women’s Wear Daily, and many others. Most recently, her neon DiscGlo collection has been the one getting a lot of attention as a funky, raver-like line of fun pieces.

Levy got her BFA in textile design from the Rhode Island School of Design and started designing costumes for dance and theater productions, even performing in some herself. As she picked up the spool and needle, she found more creativity and freedom in knitting costumes for the experimental movement performances. It was from these performances that the first fashion-forward pieces of the KRELwear line were born. Since then, KRELwear has become a well-known avant grade expression, with Levy creating a fusion of art and fashion not only in her refreshingly original designs, but also in their presentations.

From dresses, sweaters, skirts, tanks, and jumpers to accessories like hats, scarves, and leg warmers, the options in the KrelWear line are about as endless as the massive balls of yarn used to create them. They can be worn in a variety of ways too. Many pieces are convertible, reversible, and mix-and-matchable, and are all one of a kind. You can even make an appointment with Levy herself to get a custom, made-to-order piece to perfectly fit your body. The great thing about her designs is that they’re all very comfortable, breathable, and suit any and every body type.

Last Thursday, her DiscGlo collection was featured in a fashion presentation at SET nightclub, a perfect setting for the party wear that the outfits embody. Levy and her team of models were all decked out in the wild getups, with each girl getting a personal black light to let the knits really glow. As they made their way out into the crowd, they dispersed to walk amongst the party people. Towering over everyone in their light-up platform shoes, the girls danced and mingled with the crowd, making for a way more interactive experience than any catwalk can provide. We caught up with Levy, who has recently moved back from New York, to hear more about her love for her hometown and the fun, sexy collection.

World Red Eye: You started in Miami, then took KRELwear up to New York City, and recently moved back. How does it feel to be back in the city you started the brand?

Karelle Levy: I am so happy to be home! NYC did give me some lessons, and I wouldn’t be so appreciative of my community unless I went there. I learned to use public transportation, how important fresh air is to me, and that people in Miami LOVE to wear color. I’m lucky to be from Miami, and as much as I love New York, I don’t miss it at all- just my friends. I didn’t realize how spoiled I was in Miami, until I left. My work requires me to travel, and this is an amazing place to come back home to. It’s a beautiful city, I have a view of the water, the air is fresh, the streets are clean, the women are not afraid to show their bodies, and the colors are everywhere. I realized how much of a Miami designer I really am.

WRE: What’s the inspiration for the DiscGlo collection?

KL: DiscGlo has now developed into a five year project. Since the crash of the economy, I decided it was time to have fun again. I was so busy trying hard to fit into the normal market, and all of a sudden I went from 43 boutiques to three. So I went back to making things by hand, one of a kind. At the same time, because I went to trade shows, I met a yarn distributor. I found Mr. Sparkles, as we liked to call him at the studio. Doug Kreinik of Kreinik Yarns, the US rep for Lurex, which is the leading company for metallic yarns, came by to show his collection of yarns.  We noticed some of the yarns glowed in the dark, and then some of them glowed in black light, and we thought ‘how much fun is that?!’ I threw all ’sellable’ ideas out the window and just made fun, glowing clothes. Miami was a huge inspiration, where we wear color, and go from day to night to day. The club culture is ingrained in my system. From the time Washington Square and the Cameo theater showed live acts like the Beastie Boys, to when the Kitchen Club was the ‘it’ club in high school. I’ve been partying it up for over 20 years in Miami. I’ve seen so much change, but nightlife is always prevalent!

WRE: What projects are you working on now and coming up in the near future?

KL: I’m making things for a trunk show in Bridge Hamptons at a private residence. Also, I’m about to start my production of 102 handmade hot shorts and micro minis for a boutique in St. Barths called Wild Side. I’m getting ready to go to Central Saint Martins in London for a summer course called Experimental Knitwear Fashion. I’m very excited to learn new techniques and be in London town with my fiancé.

WRE: Your ‘fashion shows’ are always unique in that your models interact with the audience, rather than the impersonal strutting down a catwalk. Would you say this has become a signature style for you?

KL: I believe clothes are meant to be lived in, moved, and felt. When you break that third wall, get up close and personal, it becomes less intimidating. I love a good runway show, but they don’t last very long, and in the blink of an eye, it’s over. I want my audience to experience the clothes and get a more intimate experience with them. I find it gives a personality to the brand.

WRE: Some of your one pieces have very interesting cuts and silhouettes. Where do you come up with some of these crazy ideas?

KL: At the end of the day, I’m just a textile designer that makes fabric you put on your body. They are unique by design, and in a way the fabric dictates the form. The body is like the canvas, and the clothes are like paint.

WRE: How do you see some of your more radical designs being worn outside of high fashion parties?

KL: I think my clothes are versatile. From cocktail parties to night clubs, there are different styles for different occasions. But then again, they are great on performers too. Nicki Minaj wore my clothes on David Letterman, among other times. I love hearing from my clients that their pieces are still in their closets, and that they always get so many compliments when they wear them.

WRE: Where can we find your stuff on sale now?

KL: I have a great new studio on Lincoln Road at ArtCenter where people can set up appointments. It’s also available online through my website, Wild Side boutique in St. Barths, and I tend to do trunk shows all over the world. I wouldn’t consider myself easy to buy from, but it’s definitely worth the experience.

Schick’s Prune for June

Miami Beach, FL – June 5, 2013 - Schick Quattro for Women kicked off their Prune for June summer style campaign with a fashionably fabulous party on Wednesday evening at Soho Beach House’s swanky rooftop penthouse. The night featured celebrity fashion stylist Rachael Russell and her local nonprofit Style Saves, which is a small group of young professionals who raise funds to provide underprivileged students with brand new outfits for back-to-school. Schick Quattro for Women’s new TrimStyle razor gives a whole new meaning to summer and has developed five unique trimstyles for your best bikini look, with a complete look developed by Russell and other stylists for each: Landing Strip, Heart Breaker, Stargazer, Bare-Muda Triangle, and the Flash. There’s even a contest going on where you create your own Pinterest board inspired by one of the styles for a chance to win $2,500 in clothes and accessories hand-picked by the stylists. World Red Eye chatted with Russell about the exciting summer campaign with Schick, her fundraiser Style Saves, and the hottest trends this summer.

“What’s a better girl’s accessory than a hot, stylish guy? A lot of these styles translate to men as well because they need to look good too. The Crasqi swim trunks are perfect for this summer.”

“The way that I translated these categories was into trends of the season. For instance, the Bare-Muda Triangle is all about the Bermuda short which is really trendy this summer. Chloé is doing a great one. It’s about the woman who’s not afraid to take risks and is really confident in the way she looks.”

“The Flash, to me, is about crazy prints- being printed, loud, and adding in pops of color with neon or geometric jewelry.”

“The Heart Breaker is as flirtatious as it is fun, and what’s more fun than a crop top and showing some mid drift? I’m a sucker for those looks right now.”

“The Landing Strip I translated into bold stripes. Big, bold stripes are very heavy on the runways this season. Everyone from TopShop to Tom Ford is putting them out.”

“The Stargazer is very ethereal, whimsical, and romantic, so I used flowy caftans and muted colors.”

“These are just teasers of some of the looks that will be shown on July 19 at the third annual Style Saves charity fashion show at Soho Beach House presented by Schick Quattro TrimStyle. We’re also really excited to be a part of the launch of the new swimwear tradeshow Cabana, as well as showing looks from Atrium and Crasqi. Cabana is taking a lot of the cool brands out of the [Miami Beach] Convention Center and doing a pop-up on the beach. It’ll be very concentrated, with a lot of trendy lines like Mara Hoffman. I’m really looking forward to what they’re putting together because it’s going to be very cool.”

“We were working with InHouse Ideas on the third annual summer fashion show. They presented us with the idea to partner with Schick, and we jumped at the opportunity.”

“The really cool thing about the razor is that it has three different trim settings- close, medium, and long- so you can really prune for your June.”

Esteban Cortazar on June 28, 2002

Miami Beach, FL – June 18, 2013 – Colombian-born fashion designer Esteban Cortazar entered the fashion world at just 13 years old right here in Miami, and has been steadily climbing the ladder of success ever since. It all started with his first fashion show that was an entry into a talent show for school, and Esteban, ever the perfectionist, got models to strut on the runway, make-up to be done by MAC, and designed and executed all his own designs while most of his peers were playing video games. He became the youngest designer to have shown at Miami International Fashion Week and was just 17 when his very own creations went down the runway at New York Fashion Week. After he met designer Todd Oldham on South Beach, he was submerged into the world he so passionately craved in Miami, New York, and beyond. Graduating from the Design & Architecture Senior High in the Design District, he was later appointed Chief Creative Director at Emanuel Ungaro in Paris at just 23 years old.

Now, he’s based in New York and since September, has working exclusively with online luxury fashion retailer, Net-a-Porter, to launch his refined collections under his own name. The anticipated second collection has 23 exclusive pieces and launches on July 3. His garments have graced the bodies of celebrities like BrandyNicole Richie, and Solange Knowles, with his name becoming all the more well-known among clothing and shoe lovers. Upon a recent trip to visit his hometown where he grew up, Cortazar threw a last-minute dinner at Soho Beach House, and caught up with World Red Eye about his early foray into fashion, some past gossip, and where he’s headed now.

World Red Eye: How does it feel to be back in your hometown? It’s a special treat to have you back.

Esteban Cortazar: It was definitely a special treat. It was a spontaneous thing that came up. I was going for other personal reasons, so I thought maybe we can put together a little dinner to celebrate the collections I’ll be launching in a couple weeks on Net-a-Porter and invite the Miami influencers and friends I have in the town I grew up in. It wasn’t the ideal weather with the rain, but it ended up being dramatic and cinematic in the way it looked from the top of the Soho House, so it was quite beautiful.

First Fashion Show at Bar Room on April 28, 1999

Esteban’s fashion show at Bar Room was the first of its kind- never before had such a young prodigy been able to execute a full production on his own, let alone in one of South Beach’s top nightclubs of the time. Clearly ahead of his time, Cortazar dedicated all his time and efforts to his designs and achieving the perfect show by recruiting models and make-up artists. No detail was left to spare, which is what still carries through in his work now, over a decade later.

“We always knew Esteban was a creative genius. To date, I’ve never met someone with such talent and an incredible aura at such a young age that all notables flocked to him. At fourteen he produced his first fashion show at my club Barroom, and we all knew then that there was no holding this kid back.” – Chris Paciello, owner of Bar Room

Esteban Cortazar

WRE: You first got your start in the fashion world when you met Todd Oldham here in Miami, how did that come about? Are you guys still friends?

EC: Absolutely. I met Todd when I was about 13 years old- when he first opened his store on South Beach. I lived just a few blocks away at The News Café with my father, and it was just a beautiful and interesting time in South Beach. It was just really beginning its glowing years with Gianni Versace; it was my playground as a kid and experiencing those things around me growing up was a big inspiration. Todd brought me to New York for my first fashion show. It was the beginning of my career, and I had this drive at such a young age. Something just clicked in me, and I’m lucky to have him push me to do what I wanted to do and make me comfortable with who I am. The more years that pass, the more I realize the value in being able to live in Miami at that time with such great people that made it what it is today.

Esteban Cortazar

The Cortazar-Celebrity Connection

With his mother, Dominique Vaughn, a jazz singer, and his father, Valentino Cortazar, an artist, Esteban grew up in an environment that promoted creativity and fine arts. When he started sketching dresses and set out for his first fashion show, he quickly gained a celebrity following, especially after he met designer Todd Oldham. With much of his South Beach childhood spent in the spotlight, Esteban’s friends and close supporters quickly developed into a long roster of famous names and faces. It’s been this unique childhood that has contributes to his very early experience as a designer and has allowed him to grow into a premier fashion designer so rapidly.

WRE: What are your fondest memories growing up in the Magic City? How does your childhood here influence you as a designer now?

EC: It definitely gave me my sensual approach to the way I play and experiment with the female body. I grew up in a town where there were a lot of naked bodies around and the female body was celebrated in a sexy way. Being Latin and growing up in South Beach around the gay culture at such an early age gave me the freedom to be who I wanted to be, with this uninhibited way of not having any pressure or formula to prove anything to anyone. Miami was just a spontaneous little town. I mostly lived in South Beach, then I started going to DASH in the Design District when it was starting to grow. I started to see the growth of Miami as the years went by, but those early years really set something in my heart. I’ll never forget those years, especially getting to meet Gianni [Versace] and being at these photo shoots with Cindy Crawford on the beach- things that will never be replicated- they’re quite special, and it will always be an inspiration for me and my work.

WRE: What was it like being 13 years old and trying to break into the fashion business?

EC: That wasn’t even in my mind at the time. It wasn’t about that. That’s the beauty of being so young: you don’t think about those kinds of things, you have a freedom of going up and talking to people. I had no shyness with expressing myself. It was just me playing designer, it wasn’t so much ‘this is going to be my career.’ I was just being spontaneous, and it continued to grow. When I showed my first collection in New York at 17, it was the same kind of thing; I wasn’t so aware of everything that goes into this business. Now I am, fortunately or unfortunately, and I can’t be that same way anymore. There is pressure and I’m not a kid anymore. I really have to prove myself and show what I’m about. That’s why this Net-a-Porter project is incredible because they’ve not only allowed me to express my vision, but I can reach women all around the world from Miami to Sydney. It goes beyond something small; I’m taking baby steps to really build the right business.

WRE: When you were Artistic Director at Emanuel Ungaro, you refused to work with Lindsay Lohan who was to be brought in as an Artistic Consultant, so they cut ties. Looking back now, four years later, are you still happy with your decision?

EC: I think it was the best decision I’ve ever made. With that said, the experience I had at Ungaro was by far the most incredible experience I’ve had in my career. Moving to Paris and working for a French couture house at 23 and being given that chance, that will never be taken away from me. It had me think about my craft and who I am. The time I chose to leave was when I decided this is what I want to do with my life. I’m not doing this to be on the cover of US Weekly- it goes way beyond that- it’s about my integrity, and nothing comes in the way of that. I wouldn’t be at Net-a-Porter if I hadn’t made that decision. It only brought positive things to me. And that experience with Ungaro was something I’ll always be thankful that they gave to me.  It became such gossip, but it was simple- it was an idea they had and I didn’t agree so we decided to part ways. It happens.

WRE: Do you have any plans to visit Miami more often or open a boutique here?

EC: I started there, and it’s the town that really embraced me as a kid. I would love to explore many kinds of projects in Miami, and I’d love to have a store when the time is right. At the moment, I do go at least once every year or two, taking care of paper work for my green card. The things that bring me back are my dear friends, stone crabs, the beach, and the Cuban food of course. I wish they could Fed-Ex [Joe's stone crabs] over to Europe, but they don’t ship them internationally. I’ve tried so many times, so instead I just have to go there.

The Local “It Boy”

Not only did Esteban rub elbows with big name celebrities and supermodels, but he also became a beloved member of the South Beach local scene. From his earliest dinners with Ocean Drive magazine to birthday parties and trunk shows, Cortazar quickly made friends with all the reputable locals. He was always a welcome addition, if not the main attraction, at all the hottest parties and events on Collins Avenue, Ocean Drive, and Washington Avenue. Everyone who has watched him grow up here is beyond proud of his earliest days and how much of a career he’s made for himself already.

WRE: What’s it been like going from a design house to having your own label?

EC: The good thing is that I had my own label before Ungaro, so I had a little taste of what it was.  It was way smaller before, but I went back and kick-started my business, and now I know exactly what I do and don’t want. You have to take risks, and after being in the business for 13 years, I can understand a little better what’s important to do and how slow and steady can really win the race instead of going into things too fast. In the beginning I went into the game too fast because I wasn’t thinking on a big scale. I was just enjoying my teenage youth and having the opportunities, but now my head is in the right place and I know what I need to do.

WRE: You’re known for combining a variety of textiles so well in your clothes and shoes- leather, suede, satin, metals- how do you conceive the right proportion of mixing and matching and which textiles to use?

EC: My experience at Ungaro is a huge part of understanding fabrics to a much higher level. I’ve been going to a big fabric fair in Paris, and I worked with such incredible fabrics, so now my eye is polished a lot more to picking the right ones and knowing how to edit yourself, which is very hard to do. That’s why the collections now are small and have a particular, direct point of view- you either like it or you don’t- but that’s fine. I don’t want to do a collection that has a million different views and options. I’d rather start with something that’s very straight forward. At the end of the day, it is what it is.

WRE: Your spring line was so well received with the gorgeous cream and ivory colors- what was the inspiration?

EC: There are reference points and styling points, but for me, it was a white canvas to start a new journey. That’s how it started with the color palette. This new collection is an exploration of curves, lines, the female body, how to accentuate from the shoulders to the hips, how to make a woman look and feel beautiful. I think ultimately that’s what every woman wants.

EC: I’m taking baby steps, so next is the launch of the collection with Net-a-Porter on July 3. We are planning different promotional efforts to push it out globally, so thats keeping me busy, and we’re working hard to get the best feedback and results possible. I’m working on the third collection, which will be ready later this year, and just taking it little by little in continuing this dialogue with women.

Del Toro X Johnny Robles Unveiling

Miami, FL – June 29, 2013 – Keeping with the true connection of art and fashion, Del Toro launched its fourth collaboration in the “Del Toro Artists Series” with local artist, Johnny Robles. Along with the release of the new “Macaw Camo” print, Robles embellished the freshly revamped Del Toro Boutique in Wynwood with a unique, full wall mural of its own. Del Toro’s involvement with artists like Johnny and previous collaborator Typoe, is meant to convey the cultural collective of Miami. Guests gathered at the boutique to see the redesign and the vibrant, bright camo shoe creations that are reflective of both Robles and Del Toro’s hometown. The Macaw Camo Slipper with natural sole and Macaw Camo Chukka with white sole will be available online and at the Del Toro Boutique for both men and women. See what brought about the collaboration and inspiration between Robles and Del Toro owner, Matt Chevallard, below.

Johnny Robles & Matt Chevallard

Matt Chevallard: Redesigning the boutique was making it more myself. I wanted to spruce it up a little bit and take it to the next level. Having Johnny do a mural + installing Vintage cobalt Herman Miller couching + and draping vintage nautical and international flags from ceiling. Ultimately the store is more me and fits more of my vision that I want to offer. It is actually our 4th series and we will continue to offer limited edition projects with local and international artists we share similar visions and aesthetics with.

Johnny Robles

Johnny Robles: Matt has always showed much interest in art, its history and has been an avid supporter of my work. I thought it would be an exciting challenge to watch this collaboration unfold. Although I have always worked independently, I know that some things work better when two minds collide.

Johnny Robles: Living in Miami has definitely influenced the use of color in my work as much as I am influenced by psychedelia and color combinations found in nature. Flowers, plants, or a Scarlet Macaw, or even a rainbow after a downpour. Those are a few things where my idea derived from.

Johnny Robles: My work is always changing as everything else does on earth. I will always use color in my work but the treatment may unfold into something new. I think the shoes speak very positively and relate to most people, as each design on every pair was made differently and individual as all people should be but all of the same colors.

Johnny Robles: This exchange of energy and creativity with Del Toro allowed for the creation of something wonderful and incredibly positive.

Matt Chevallard: It is part of our intent to form a cultural collective lifestyle. Arts, fashion forming that bond that allows us to cater our unique offerings and lifestyle to our community.

Matt Chevallard: We always have projects in store that allow us to offer unique product and remain relevant and interesting. We continue to develop our luxury lifestyle and the response has been very unbelievably encouraging.

The 2014 swimwear collections have arrived and Miami Beach’s chicest venues are getting ready to showcase all of the beauty and style. Last year marked the 30th Anniversary of Swim Show Miami, the convention that started the tradition of summer swim shows in Miami Beach. The private soirée invited guests to join along a “Champagne Promenade” through the mall, leading to a live fashion showcase, previewing the Brazilian designers featured at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2014.

A series of unique, visual activations took place at the five boutiques that were featured in the Vogue Miami issue. Each served as stops along the Champagne Promenade. Top Brazilian socialites hosted at the five participating retailers, including Carolina Melo at Tiffany & Co., Ricardo Dunin at 120% Lino, Juliana Savoia at Pili Carrera, Amelia Whitaker at Silvia Tcherassi and Cristiano Piquet at Rugs by Zhaleh. Miami Beach, FL – July 21, 2013 – Maaji made its Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim runway debut in Miami at The Raleigh Hotel – Cabana Grande tent. The brand presented its 2014 Chimeric Wayfarer collection of women’s swimwear & lingerie, and first-ever line of men’s swimwear.

The Maaji signature is built upon its unexpected mixture of prints, textures, cutting-edge silhouettes and the sweet, ubiquitous presence of details. Each Maaji swimwear collection is inspired by a magical surreal story that is the result of a long process. The Colombia-based team of designers, garment manufacturers and pattern developers blend their ideas together to create a one-of-a-kind product; a real piece of art.
