Miami, FL – May 12, 2015 – Alchemist, the lifestyle and designer fashion boutique has opened its third namesake location, which focuses on fine jewelry. Owners Roma and Erika Cohen commissioned local architect Rene Gonzalez to design the 1,000-square-foot space in the Miami Design District’s Palm Court. To celebrate the opening, model-actress-style icon Erin Wasson, Barbara Becker, and Rene Gonzalez hosted an intimate cocktail reception in the Palm Court in front of Alchemist’s gleaming, rose gold-mirrored facade. Signature Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque Brut was served in celebration of the grand opening of Alchemist’s newest store.

Q&A: A Day in South Florida with the Editorialist’s Stefania Allen & Kate Davidson Hudson

Miami Beach, FL – May 8, 2015 – The Editorialist’s co-founders, Stefania Allen and Kate Davidson Hudson hosted Cecconi’s Miami Beach’s monthly Fashion for Breakfast. Moderator Julia Ford-Carther, assistant editor at Ocean Drive Magazine led the conversation, covering everything from fashion to family and engaging the audience to share questions of their own.

Before the fashion forward day kicked off, World Red Eye seized the opportunity to catch up with Kate Davidson Hudson of the Editorialist, where she give us an inside look into how her and Allen created their unique concept, some of the latest trends buzzing around, and what we can expect from the Editorialist in years to come.

WRE: How did you two meet? What were you both doing before starting The Editorialist?

KDH: We met as assistants in the fashion department of Harper’s Bazaar. We were both former Fashion Accessories editors.

WRE: What sparked the inspiration for you both come up with the idea for The Editorialist?

KDH: We realized we were getting our fashion media and shopping almost exclusively online. We decided to marry the two for a more efficient experience- that experience is now the Editorialist experience.

4-DSC_5399

5-DSC_5402

WRE: Apart from the difference of focusing on luxury accessories, what would you say sets the Editorialist apart from other luxury retail sites like Net-a-Porter or Rue La La?

KDH: Editorialist is the only site focused exclusively on the luxury accessories market. We believe accessories are the most powerful tools in transforming a look and the smartest investment pieces in a wardrobe. We know the market better than anyone else on the market and are able to leverage our past editorial experience to spot new talent and bring coveted designer exclusives to our readers. With all other sites, accessories are very much an after-thought, and many of the accessories buys at large retailers are redundant. We were frustrated by this as consumers before we launched the site as we felt we were seeing the same buy at all of our favorite stores and the amazing pieces we saw during the shows were not connecting on the retail floors. We make a concerted effort to buy these special, one-off pieces that our discerning, fashion savvy woman cannot find in the market.

6-DSC_5362

WRE: The Editorialist offers a unique concierge program for its customers, can you tell us a bit about this?

KDH: Our in-house concierge is in place to ensure the ultimate white glove experience for every visitor to our site. From styling advice to creating bespoke pieces, our team of editors, and stylists are on call to help with all of our readers fashion accessory needs.

WRE: As you purchase for the site, do you find yourself slipping favorite pieces into your own wardrobe?

KDH: Of course! All the time- we’re spoiled for choice. It can be dangerous most days!

7-DSC_5549

Stefania Allen, Kate Davidson Hudson, & Julia Ford-Carther

8-DSC_5611

WRE: What are some major trends we can expect for Summer?

KDH: A nod to the 70’s was one of our favorites with flatforms, ultity satchels and long gold pendants. Also obsessing over gladiators as seen on the runway at Valentino and Chloe.

WRE: Living in Miami can be a bit difficult to follow the typical seasonal trends, what are some staple items every girl down here should own?

KDH: As New Yorkers, we are very jealous of your warm weather. Every girl needs a white sandal (loving the Aquazurra Beverly Hills and Paul Andrew stacked heel), an espadrille (Pierre Hardy, Chloe or Proenza Schouler are among favorites), a choker to dress up any day look, a cross body (we’re obsessed with hands free these days!) and an earcuff. Those are just a few!

9-DSC_5519

10-DSC_5485

Stefania Allen & Kate Davidson Hudson

WRE: What is a day in the life running Editorialist like?

KDH: Every day is different. Everyday at Editorialist is different; we’re constantly running in and out of the office between market appointments, photo shoots, scouting for new designer talent, and vendor meetings. At the office, we’re reviewing our designers’ layouts and videos for the stream of new content that is posted on the site daily.

WRE: What are your hopes for The Editorialist in years to come?

KDH: As the first mover in this space, we are really excited about the growth over the last two years. We now have a print magazine as an extension of our digital issue; we featured Christy Turlington on the last cover and are excited about the next cover announcement to come.

All Eyes on Warby Parker

1-DSCA6293

Miami, FL – June 5, 2015 – Although this town is known for its ever changing streets, various characters and diversity, there is one thing that always remains constant in South Florida: the need for sunglasses. Just in time for summer, Warby Parker decided to nestle themselves into the heart of Wynwood with their first stand-alone location in Miami.

Currently, the eyewear industry runs under a monopoly that produces the majority of designer eyewear worn today. Unfortunately, due to this domination, that company is able to keep prices of eyewear artificially high; reaping major profits from consumers who really have no other options. Warby Parker was created with one main goal in mind: to offer designer eyewear at an affordable price. The problem was simple; eyewear is expensive and many are left without the proper wear due to high costs. By circumventing traditional channels, designing glasses in-house, and engaging with customers directly, Warby Parker has developed a way to provide higher-quality, better-looking prescription (and non-prescription) eyewear at a fraction of the average retail price.

In true Wynwood fashion, a mural created by DALeast and Cryptik during Art Basel wraps around the side of the store.

Though this is the first stand-alone location in Miami, Warby Parker has been selling glasses, slinging vintage reads, and offering art-themed bikes rides at The Readery (inside the Standard Spa, Miami Beach) since 2012. Settling down in the Wynwood Art District seemed to be the perfect fit for the unique brand; great art, tasty restaurants, and a stable of other like-minded folks. Warby Parker has always had an appreciation for the arts— in the past, collaborating with Maira Kalman, Geoff McFetridge, and Jason Polan on original artwork.

4-DSCA6020

The store itself reflects much of the Wynwood’s industrial vibe, but with an added dose of Miami’s poolside pizzazz thrown in. Think swimming pool-patterned floors, tropical plants, and an overhead photo booth that recreates your classic lounging-by-the-water moment.

5-DSCA6071

6-DSCA6067

In-store you’ll also find the Reference Desk, a one-stop-shop for pickups, adjustments, and more. Prescription glasses are shipped within 7-10 business days, while non prescription sunwear and optical frames are available for immediate takeaway. Seriously, who doesn’t love the instant gratification?

7-DSCA6152

8-DSCA6084

9-DSCA6064

Too busy and can’t seem to make it into a shop? Warby Parker makes it easy to shop online and choose the best looking style to fit your face with their Home Try-On program. Customers are able to pick out five frames and they’ll ship them to you for free (with non-prescription, demo lenses) so you can try them on in the comfort of your own home.

10-DSCA6038

11-DSCA6052

Aside from selling trendy specs and shades, Warby Parker also believes that everyone has the right to see. There are millions of people worldwide that lack access to glasses, which means that a large percentage of the world’s population cannot effectively learn or work. To help address this problem, Warby Parker partners with non-profit organizations like VisionSpring to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need. This is called their “Buy a Pair, Give a Pair” program.

12-DSCA6122

So get ready to #seesummerbetter and head right around the corner from The Wynwood Walls at 215 NW 25th Street to snag a new pair.

Miami Beach, FL – June 17, 2015 – There’s nothing better than getting all dolled up and enjoying a morning of good eats and talking all things fashion. Cecconi’s ever popular Fashion for Breakfast series was at it again last week, bringing out Kerry Pieri, Digital Fashion & Features Director at Harper’s BAZAAR, and Shira Suveyke, VP of Global Buying at TheOutnet.com for an intimate conversation. Guests listened in as moderator Iman Hasan guided the ladies through a chat about high summer trends, as well as a presentation showcase of 17 exclusive, limited-edition designer pieces that are available on The Outnet this June.

Before the chat, World Red Eye caught up with Kerry Pieri who gave us an inside look as to what her position at the magazine is like, as well as some of the latest trends we can expect for this upcoming summer season.

2-Iman Hasan, Kerry Pieri, & Shira Suveyke

Miami does a great job of mastering summer trends, but I think it’s really all about light fabrications.

Isabella Ramos, Andres Sosa, & Ivian Sarcos

WRE: Being the Digital Fashion & Features Director at Harper’s BAZAAR is a dream job for many in the fashion industry, how did you get your start?

KP: Originally I started out in broadcast and prior to this position at Harper’s BAZAAR I was the editorial director of StyleCaster, a fashion based start up. StyleCaster was a great place to begin because it allowed me to get my foot in the door and get to know how the industry works, as well as establish some great contacts. Both jobs really helped give me a varied media background and establish a great foundation for my digital fashion & features position. Digital media is always different, one minute you are interviewing someone the next minute you are helping style a shoot or creative directing. I wear a lot of hats so I think that I accidentally set myself up perfectly for this position.

5-Isabella Ramos, Shira Suveyke, Iman Hasan, & Kerry Pieri speaking2

WRE: What are some major trends we can expect this Summer?

KP:  Miami does a great job of mastering summer trends, but I think it’s really so much about light fabrications. The off-the-shoulder look is huge right now. I think crochet and lace just look really beautiful and are something you need to invest in, you know, cheap lace is never going to work. The 70’s trend is still going strong; anything flowing and has some air beneath it can really make you look glamorous. As far as swim trends, I think the maillot is still going strong. It’s very flattering and designers are having a lot of fun with it.

8-Isabella Ramos, Shira Suveyke, Iman Hasan, & Kerry Pieri speaking4

9-Shira Suveyke, Iman Hasan, Kerry Pieri, & Ivian Sarcos speaking

Shira Suveyke, Iman Hasan, Kerry Pieri, & Ivian Sarcos

WRE: Describe your personal style in 3 words.

KP:  I would say that my style is streamlined, fun, and creative.

WRE: Putting all seasons aside, what are some staple items every girl needs to have in their closet?

KP: I think it’s important to have a pair of jeans that you love and a jacket. The jacket doesn’t need to be a blazer, but one that you feel really great in. A blouse will take you miles. I’m a huge proponent of the white t-shirt, as well as one dress that you really can wear anywhere.

Isabella Ramos

12-Isabella Ramos1

13-Isabella Ramos4

WRE: You recently did a piece on this, but can you tell us a bit more on how one can take the perfect ‘fashion vacation Instagram’?

KP: It was a little tongue in cheek, but was meant to be light-hearted and funny. Instagram does seem to be taking over, and as some would say, you’re only as good as your Instagram. But you know, I think in all good fun it starts with the look, and once you’re in a beautiful location, just really try and capture that with as much fun and creativity as you can. Of course, you also make sure to get your good angles.

WRE: How many vacation Instagram’s are too many?

KP: I think it’s important to not do more than one ‘selfie’ a day. People are going to start to hate you haha.

14-Isabella Ramos3

15-Ivian Sarcos2

16-DSC_7783

WRE: What’s your must-have travel accessory?

KP: A hat. I have this one, it’s a baseball hat that says “love” backwards on it and it’s taken me so far because you can pack it everywhere, and is always helpful when you need to cover your face.

Bouchra Ezzahraoui, Pablo Delgado, Rachael Russell, & Natalie Gee

Miami Beach, FL – July 9, 2015 – Miami’s trendsetters got their much needed fashion fix as the popular Fashion For Breakfast series took over Cecconi’s. Moderator Rachael Russell, President and Founder of Style Saves, joined together with hosts from iShine365, Goet, Aurate, and Gee Beauty to discuss the in’s and out’s of fashion and philanthropy.

With the highly anticipated Style Saves 5th annual fashion show fundraiser just around the corner, we caught up with Founder Rachael Russell who gave us some insight into what it’s like planning such a successful event, along with some major trends we can expect to see down the catwalk.

2.5-DSC_2566

Christina Pino, Bouchra Ezzahraoui, Pablo Delgado, Natalie Gee, & Rachael Russell

WRE: What are you most looking forward to for this year’s Style Saves 5th annual fashion show fundraiser?

RR: We are really looking forward to having Calypso on board for the first time. We will also will be having the very fashionable Mia Moretti dj’ing.

WRE: Is there anything that sets apart this year’s show from year’s past?

RR: For the first time we’re moving the show to the Miami Beach Edition.

3-Christina Pino, Bouchra Ezzahraoui, Pablo Delgado, Natalie Gee, & Rachael Russell speaking8

5-Christina Pino, Bouchra Ezzahraoui, & Pablo Delgado speaking1

Christina Pino, Bouchra Ezzahraoui, & Pablo Delgado

WRE: What designers can we expect to be highlighted down the catwalk this year?

RR: Calypso, Kai Lani, Regine Chevallier, Goet, Jaimie Nicole and within the iShine 365 show there will be heavy hitters like Acaica, Mara Hoffman, Minimal Animal, to name a few.

6-Christina Pino, Bouchra Ezzahraoui, Pablo Delgado, Natalie Gee, & Rachael Russell speaking3

Christina Pino, Bouchra Ezzahraoui, Pablo Delgado, Natalie Gee, & Rachael Russell

WRE: Tell us about the process in how you decide what goes onto the runway?

RR: We look for a balance between well-known established brands and emerging underground designers.

WRE: The last week leading up to the event, what goes through your mind? What are some things we might find you doing?

RR: Now in my fifth year doing this, I can confidently say I have the hang of it. I’m way less stressed and have a solid support group to help with the logistics. If I’m not planning for Style Saves you can find me on set for a shoot (day job) or planning my next vacation (mental health break).

RR: For the past few years Style Saves has been working on initiatives both nationally and internationally- we plan to keep expanding and adding to the program annually.

10-Christina Pino, Bouchra Ezzahraoui, Pablo Delgado, Natalie Gee, & Rachael Russell speaking13

Bouchra Ezzahraoui, Pablo Delgado, Natalie Gee, & Rachael Russell

WRE: What styles should we expect to see this swim season?

RR: We’re collaborating with top agencies and the Kitten Agency (Galore magazine girls) so will have some killer babes that most of you probably follow on Instagram. We also have Johnny The Boy and Bret “The Hitman” coming to spin a few sets. Joey Malouf from The Rachel Zoe Project, will be curating looks for hair and make-up and a ton more. Come see to find out!

WRE: Can you tell us more about the latest Summer trends? What’s in/what’s out?

RR: This year the one piece has come back in a major way. When choosing a bikini, less is definitely always more. Also, I think it’s safe to say that we’re all over neon.

Q&A: Style Mafia

Marissa Fashion Shoot - RODRIGO GAYA

Miami Beach, FL – July 10, 2015 – There’s a new boss lady in town and she’s holding fashionistas hostage with her latest threads and unique styles. At the young age of 24, Simonett Pereira has managed to conquer more than most can dream of in the fashion world with her chic clothing brand, Style Mafia. This Miami-based clothing line targeted towards fashion-conscious women is a one-of-a-kind brand, offering a high fashion look at a reasonable price point. Seriously, who doesn’t want the “I just stepped off the run-way but didn’t make a dent in my wallet” look? After launching her blog in 2012, Pereira’s empire began to flourish. Soon enough, she found herself buying and selling clothing on her 500,000 follower site, ShopStyleMafia.com. After the launch of her online brand, Style Mafia, she opened a showroom in Wynwood and is now carried in more than 50 retailers worldwide.

World Red Eye was able to catch up with ‘Mafia’ boss herself where we chatted about her inspiration, her thoughts on fashion in Miami, and her exciting plans for the future of Style Mafia.

Marissa Fashion Shoot - RODRIGO GAYA

WRE: Tell us about how Style Mafia started?

SP: Prior to starting the brand I had a personal style blog. I got booked to host an event for a shopping app called Poshmark where I was able to amount a following of 500k+ and was reselling brands from LA. One year into doing that I decided to travel to Asia and produce my own clothing.

WRE: Is there a specific reason you chose Wynwood to be your showroom location?

SP: Wynwood is really cool because of it’s “underground” aspect. There has been a lot of development in the area in the recent months but the pulse of the neighborhood is still very local and creative.

Marissa Fashion Shoot - RODRIGO GAYA

WRE: What does the timeline look like, start to finish, when creating a new collection? Knowing you don’t design, in which ways are you involved?

SP: I am constantly looking for ideas and inspiration in magazines, fashion photography archives, vintage stores and instagram. We produce mini collections every month. I come up with the ideas that I present to our designer and in about 15 days he is able to get samples out to us. My job, primarily is to build the Style Mafia brand. Creating our identity,  growing our social media presence, producing webitorials for our site and developing strategies for partnerships and events takes up most of my time but I am also overseeing production and operations. It’s a lot!

Marissa Fashion Shoot - RODRIGO GAYA

WRE: Has Miami’s culture/style had an influence on your clothing?

SP: Miami is a new city. I think our brand has an up-and-coming identity that is very much in-line with this city.

WRE: What makes Style Mafia’s clothing stand out over other designers?

SP: The clothing speaks for itself. It’s cool to be able to take innovative design to the street by sticking to affordable price points.

Marissa Fashion Shoot - RODRIGO GAYA

WRE: What kind of girl is rocking Style Mafia clothing?

SP: Style Mafia is for the independent thinker. I am a person that is inclined towards the alternative in all aspects of my life and this speaks through my brand. The Style Mafia woman is one that keeps current with fashion outlets but interprets trends in a very personal way.

WRE: Do you think Style Mafia will eventually expand and have accessories/bags/shoes?

SP: This is definitely in our plans. Currently we have a Style Mafia accessories collaboration with local designer Scarlet Massiel that is available exclusively at the showroom.

WRE: What were your inspirations before you launched Style Mafia, are they different today?

SP: Starting your own business is a bit of a  mental and emotional roller coaster. Starting your own business at 22 with no experience in the manufacturing/retailing business is a world in it’s own. I started the company with a clear vision of what I wanted to accomplish, a sense of aesthetic and not much else. Every step of the process has led the brand to a new path and we only plan to keep expanding from this point forward.

9-DSCA9546

WRE: Tell us more about Style Mafia’s partnership with Refinery29 and Simon Malls for the five city US tour?

SP: Refinery29 reached out to us to partner with them for their Festival Style tour in the US this summer. We are really very excited to be taking the brand to cities where we don’t currently sell and have such amazing companies backing us up.

WRE: Which cities are you stopping at?

SP: We will be in Austin, Miami, Philly, Boston and DC! We are also independently producing a pop-up in NYC in August which we will post more about on our site soon.

10-DSCA9559

WRE: What do you hope this tour will do for Style Mafia?

SP: Most of these cities are completely new markets for us so being able to activate at this series of events that juxtapose fashion and music with performers such as Twin Shadow, The Dolls, Austra is definitely a big deal for us.

10-DSCA9617

11-DSCA9623

WRE: What kind of advice would you give someone who’s not too familiar with putting together a great outfit?

SP: Stay true to yourself, always. Trends can be fun but it’s good to keep in mind that uniqueness is always attractive.

WRE: Being the founder and creative director, what is a typical day like for you?

SP: Aside from strategizing for growth and leading marketing, I also oversee daily operations such as order fulfillment, appointments with buyers and content management for our website.

WRE: When you’re not working, what can we find you up to?

SP: With managing the brand and industry-related social commitments, this time is rare! When I am completely unattached to fashion I spend time with friends at places like the upstairs bar at 27 or The Annex.

13-DSCA9590

WRE: Overall, what about your brand or your journey makes you the most proud?

SP: It still blows me away to see strangers on the street and on social media wearing my brand. I am really proud of how much we have grown as a company in just under two years and it feels really good to be in the position to be able to influence and empower young women around the world to do the same.

Miami Beach, FL – July 18, 2015 – Mohini Swim debuted its “Welcome to Miami” 2016 Collection at the Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach with an exclusive fashion presentation. Miami spectators were presented with 16 show-stopping looks including a combination of eye-catching patterns, vibrant colors and sophisticated designs, inspired by the brilliant balance that is Miami Beach. Professional NFL players Carlos Dunlap and Leger Douzable were among the onlookers, along with singer/songwriter Lola Ponce. The flavorful fashion of Miami was carried throughout the presentation while maintaining a chic aesthetic. The selection included an array of unique halter tops, ruffled bustiers, sexy cut outs and elegant triangle tops in shades of hot pink, royal blue, turquoise and yellow, mixed with retro patterns and mesh panels. Designer Kadianne Thomas blended quality construction and versatile trends, for a rare collection of fashion you can swim in. Fashionable and functional, the collection served form-flattering cuts that do not sacrifice support or coverage. The suits are resistant to chlorine, sunscreen and oils so they are durable, as well as extremely soft, silky and pleasant to the touch.

Miami Beach, FL – July 18, 2015 – Escape Miami 3 once again proved to be Miami Swim Week’s top style lounge and fashion show. Creators Katya Bravo and Annie Vazquez of TheFashionPoet.com brought their innovative retreat to the newly revamped Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach. Over a thousand guests attended included NFL stars Leger Douzable of the Jets, Carlos Dunlap of the Bengals, Marysol Patton and members of the Shahs of Sunset reality show on Bravo as well as several top bloggers and media. The event featured a group fashion show and an assortment of complimentary activations to keep guests entertained from a cigar roller to henna tattoos to a fashion sketch illustrator to a variety of games (think domino and video). Guests shopped, sipped on drinks and snow cones and cooled off in the pool.

Miami Beach, FL – July 17, 2015 – DIJANA Swim by Dijana Molina made its official launch during Miami Swim Week with a fashion show attended by 400 VIPs at Bass Museum of Art. The dramatic fashion show, held with models sashaying down the museum’s tri-level ramp, was the first of its kind to take place at the Miami Beach museum, and was the last event to be held at the museum before it closes for renovations. An Indian-inspired interpretive dancer performance preceded the show, setting the tone for the ethereal fashions to come. Inspired by the values of symmetry, purity, sensuality, renewal and beauty, DIJANA Swim showcased bikinis, maillots and beachwear in a summer palette of pink, orange, yellow, purple, orange and green hues – in solid prints as well as graceful lotus and bamboo prints designed by Dijana – in Italian fabrics. Rompers, flowing Greek-inspired jumpers, and long dresses – as well as the swimwear — were elegantly finished with custom gold hardware.   An artistic highlight of the show was a golden bamboo forest installation, which also served as a backdrop for the summer ’16 look book images.
